Joanne's obituary
Joanne Armistead was born July 26, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois. She attended Catholic elementary and high school in Chicago before enrolling at Northern Illinois State Teachers’ College. She completed her degree at Arizona State University, graduating in 1955.
Joanne began her teaching career in Phoenix, Arizona. She married Wally Armistead and continued her teaching when she moved with her growing family to Colorado. Joanne and Wally have five children, and fifteen grandchildren.
As an active member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Broomfield she served as a CCD teacher, ecumenical minister, lector, and member of the choir. In 1998 she retired from the Boulder Valley School District and began her busy life as a volunteer.
Joanne and Wally moved to Douglas County in 1998 and she quickly brought her teaching skills and experience as a volunteer at St. Thomas More Catholic School.
As her family grew, she enjoyed family reunions, and weddings. Her joy was watching her children and grandchildren grow into mature and successful adulthood.
A private funeral, immediate family only, will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church on July 27, 2023. Donations may be offered and should be forwarded to Catholic Relief Services, Denver.
