I am still stunned by Dr Ruchala's passing. She was my primary care physician for many years and was an outstanding doctor. She listened closely, asked insightful questions, was able to quickly connect my health history to the current issue and offered a range of options for my consideration. In addition to her considerable analytic abilities, she would laugh, share stories of recent travels, and connect personally. I will miss her. My deep condolences to her family . Barbara

I was so shocked and heartbroken to hear of Joanna's passing. My mom and Mrs. Randall both taught in Shorewood. Our families spent many summer and winter vacations together. I will always cherish my childhood friendship with Joanna and the wonderful memories together. My deepest condolences to her family.

I’m so sorry to hear of Dr. Ruchala’s passing. My deepest sympathies to her family. Like many, I was a patient of Dr. Ruchala. She had such a rare blend of curiosity, compassion, and determination. She was always willing to dig deeper when something didn’t fit the usual pattern. As someone who often seemed to bring the unusual or unexpected to her door, I felt truly seen, understood, and cared for. She approached every complex or quirky issue with patience, genuine interest, and a desire to understand the whole picture. I’m deeply grateful for her care and for the kindness and insight she brought to every interaction.

I was heartbroken to learn of Dr. Ruchala’s passing. She was my PCP from her onset at 20 S Park. She was thoughtful, caring, kind, thorough and so very wise. I can’t believe I won’t hear her voice again. She was delightful, and I will miss her terribly. My deepest sympathies to her beautiful family.

I was stunned to learn of Dr. Ruchala’s passing. She was my primary care physician for years. I can’t begin to express my appreciation for her way of practicing medicine: her analytical prowess; her kindness; her way of describing a situation and offering recommendations while leaving the the choices and responsibility with the patient. She is one of a kind. .
Sincere condolences to her family and friends. I’m so sorry for your loss.

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Joanna's passing. Betty and Joanna's mom first met when they both taught school in Shorewood. As our children grew up our daughter Kristen and Joanna were good friends. Our families took many summer vacations together and in the winter skiied at Powderhorn in the UP and then Colorado. Our hearts go out to your family. Don and Betty Carlson

My partner and I, both patients of Dr. Ruchala, were shocked and saddened to hear of her passing. We really appreciated her thoughtfulness and her very clear explanations. I was always amazed at how much time she spent with us. Like, does the medical establishment know she's doing this? How is this possible? We'll never find a better physician and she seemed like a genuinely wonderful person. Our hearts go out to her family.

Sending my condolences. Dr. Joanna Ruchala was my first PCP as an adult and she made a lasting impact in my life. We met when I was a young pre-med at UW-Madison, questioning what my path should look like. She helped me get through many tough moments in my life and always supported my medical choices as a young Latina, which can be hard to come by in the medical field. I am forever grateful for the care I received from Dr. Ruchala and hope to carry her thoughtful and open minded character as I embark on my own journey into medicine. I will greatly miss the amazing care she provided to me and I’m sure all of her patients.

Our family is heartbroken about the loss of dear Joanna, my niece-Bonny is my sister. My husband, "Uncle Pat," and our children Tony, Gina, and Holly, made wonderful memories with the Randalls when they visited us in Tucson, The kids would hike in Sabino Canyon, go swimming in our pool, eat at McDonald's....when we would visit Milwaukee, the cousins would go across the street and hit tennis balls and run and play on the track at Whitefish Bay H.S. and of course take many walking trips to Winkie's to shop incessantly. Though the miles still separate us, our families have stayed in touch through the years. Pat and I will be forever thankful for time we spent with Joanna last September. She will always be in our hearts and forever missed.

I was so heartbroken to hear that our Dr. Ruchala has passed. She was more than my primary care doctor; she was someone I truly appreciated sharing my health, my jobs, and my family with. I am grateful for the personal bond we shared. She will be truly missed.

As much as I dislike my yearly physicals (many years), I looked forward to seeing Dr. Ruchala every time. A "straight shooter" and a competent physician, I felt like she took good care of my concerns. I most enjoyed our conversations about her family trips. From walking up Lombardi street, seeing a momma bear and her cubs to playing trivia in Estes Park, her stories always brought a smile (and a chuckle) to her face (and mine). My condolences. I got to work with Joanna as her nurse for the last 6 years. She was a wonderful, colleague and her patients were so grateful for the wonderful care that she provided. I hear every day from patients how much they will miss her and how grateful they were for the wonderful care they received over the years. She would always share stories with me about her family trips and the accomplishments of her children. She was so proud of Colin, Miles and Allison. I feel so lucky to have gotten to know her and will miss her.
