JoAnn M. Kussmann, age 81, of Lake Villa, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

Born in Chicago on May 7, 1944, JoAnn was a proud native of the city and had called Lake Villa home since 1971. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, David and Carmella Fontanetta ;her beloved husband of 63 years, Robert E. Kussmann; and her sister-in-law, Mary Kussmann. JoAnn is survived by her cherished children, Laura Lehman (née Kussmann), Robert Kussmann Jr., and David Kussmann; her grandchildren, Ashley Emma (née Kussmann), Jeffrey Kussmann, Robert Kussmann, Michael Lehman Jr., Kayla Kussmann,and Ian Kussmann; and her great-grandchildren, Oliver Emma and Oscar Emma. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Stephan Kussmann and Donald Kussmann.

JoAnn attended St. Clement Catholic School and St. Ignatius Catholic High School in Chicago. She built a life full of love, friendship, and devotion to family.  Her many interests and hobbies enriched the lives of those around her.  Affectionately known as the “Mother” of the neighborhood,  JoAnn was always ready with a warm meal, a kind word, and heartfelt advice.  Her generous spirit and unwavering support touched countless lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.”
