JoAnn's obituary

JoAnn Hilma (Kettleson) Houser, 68, passed away peacefully in her sleep from natural causes on March 1, 2023. JoAnn was born on November 12, 1954 in Bismarck, North Dakota.

JoAnn was raised by her parents Jennings Reinhardt Kettleson and mother, Alice Caroline (Johnson) Kettleson. Youngest of five children: Gerald, Gordon, Janice, Ronald, and JoAnn. One of the expectations of her parents was to continue her education. While attending Bismarck Junior College, she met Konrad, the love of her life. They got married on June 1, 1974.

Living in North Dakota, they had 4 children: Tawnya, Jody, Konrad R, and Kayla. In 1990 they moved to Holmen, Wisconsin. While raising her children, working and continuing her education she graduated with a Masters in Social Work with a double major. In 1996 they packed up and adventured out West to Olympia, Washington where they decided to call home. JoAnn was most proud of her work towards the end of her career as a Vocational Counselor. She loved helping and seeing others succeed and accomplish their dreams.

The one thing JoAnn put above all else was her love for Jesus. She was a woman of strong faith and instilled that belief in her family. She faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity.

JoAnn had a magical way of making every person feel special and loved, not only on big occasions like holidays and birthdays, but also when just hanging out drinking sweet tea. JoAnn was known for a home filled with family and the best food, her secret ingredient was love. She enjoyed cooking, baking, trying new foods, reading, playing cards, sewing, embroidering, seeing new places, church camp, family vacations, but most of all spending time with her loved ones!

After 37 years of marriage, Konrad passed away. Leaving JoAnn with a broken heart and a much different future than planned. She began traveling to spend time with her growing family in Washington, Arizona, and Wisconsin.

JoAnn is survived by her brother Gordon Kettleson, her sister Janice (Larry Clark), brother Ronald (Alix Kettleson), Tawnya and (preceded in death Todd) Smith’s children: LillyAnna, Vanessa, Elijah (daughter Desiree) and Lucas. Jody and Samuel Flynn’s children: Samuel Jr, JoAnn, and Jada. Konrad and Amber Houser’s children: Alene (daughter Amarah and son Matthew)(preceded in death Aurora), Konrad Jr, Keira, Adalyn and Aaonna. Kayla and Donald Stansbury’s children: Skyla (daughter Stella), KayleAnn, Donald Jr, and Aaliyah.

JoAnn’s children, 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a loving, fun, giving, caring, strong, protective, smart, beautiful mother and grandmother with the softest kisses and warmest hugs ever!

Always in our hearts, XOXO!

JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents Jennings and Alice Kettleson, mother-in-law Orabella Houser, her brother Gerald Kettleson, sister-in-laws Ardis Kettleson, Linda Houser, Rachel Wenschlag, Jeanie Georgeson, son-in-law Todd Smith, nephews Gary Kettleson, Danny Clark, Jennings Kettleson, niece Lisa Wenschlag and great-granddaughter Aurora Houser-Aguella.
