"Big Momma "'s obituary
Joann Causey
July 18, 1956 – February 11, 2026
Joann Causey was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, the seventh child of Albert and Thelma Causey. As a devoted single mother, she courageously migrated to Los Angeles, California, where she raised her children and built a life rooted in family and perseverance.
She was the loving mother of Barbara, Herman, Tawana, and John Tate (“Wayne”). Affectionately known as Big Momma, Joann was full of joy and laughter—the party didn’t start until she arrived.
A woman of faith, Joann gave her life to Christ at Chapel of Peace Baptist Church in Los Angeles and later rededicated her life at Jesus Is The Answer Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky. She became a member of Glory House Global Worship Center in January 2026 and especially loved serving in the nursery.
Joann was a servant at heart and a lover of people. She proudly served as the “official Granny” at Valley High School from 2018–2023 and was active in church hospitality and community service. She loved butterflies, crossword puzzles, the color red, and never left home without her signature red lipstick.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, extended family members, and beloved niece and nephew.
Joann leaves to cherish her memory her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
On February 11, 2026, surrounded by family, Joann peacefully transitioned at 11:07 a.m.
