Joan's obituary

Joan Ward, 82, of Alexandria, Minnesota passed away on June 7, 2021 in her home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was released at last from the toll dementia had taken on her mind and body and now, in the presence of God, she is restored and at rest.

Joan was born January 7, 1939 to parents Everett and Grace Ansell. She grew up on the family farm in Illinois and loved taking care of all the animals. After graduating at the top of her high school class, she pursued further education at North Central Bible College in Minneapolis with a desire to prepare for the ministry. Here she met David Ward. They married and settled down in Alexandria, Minnesota, where they raised four children—Scott, Judy, Jim, and Doug—as well as a wide array of cats, dogs, and even goats over the years.

Joan loved spending many years as a camp counselor, choir director, organist and teacher at Lake Geneva Bible Camp, and her local church. Joan also taught a youth bible study in her home for a number of years, affecting hundreds of lives.

Joan is survived by her husband David; her son Scott and his wife Nancy (Slater), daughter Judy and her husband David Thomas, her sons, Jim and Doug, her granddaughter Christina and her husband Josh Berg.

Her laughter, her love of classical music, her garden and Birch trees, her amazing lasagna every Christmas Eve, her love of cats, and most of all, her deep love of God will be in our hearts and memories forever.

Please join us for a celebration of Joan’s life, taking place at Lake Geneva Christian Center (605 Birch Avenue, Alexandria, MN) on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 2:30 pm.
