Joan's obituary

Joan E. Buchanan Goddard

April 3, 1967 – March 18, 2025

Joan E. Buchanan Goddard passed away peacefully at home on March 18, 2025 in Littleton, CO at the age of 57 from Glioblastoma (brain cancer). Joan was born in New Jersey to Denis and Joyce (Conant) Buchanan on April 3, 1967.

Joan loved her family, playing music, reading and collecting books, camping, hiking, boating, swimming, and of course the Peanuts character Snoopy.

Joan grew up in Madison, NJ and graduated from Madison High School and later the County College of Morris. She developed her love of music in school and her love of the outdoors through the Explorer Post her parents started. Her family vacationed at Silver Bay, NY on Lake George where she later worked at the YMCA as an EMP (employee) from 1984-1988. There, she met her husband, Bill, among many other life-long friends.

Joan and Bill moved to Littleton, CO in 1996 where they raised their family. Joan continued doing the things she loved including volunteering in support of her children and teaching and playing music. She was very active at St. Luke’s UMC in the church music program where she would often play trumpet and French horn. She and Bill would also play in the pit orchestra for musicals and constructed many props and sets over the years.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, Denis and Joyce (Conant) Buchanan. She is survived by her husband William (Bill), her children and their spouses, Ethan (and Jenna) Goddard, and Kimberly (and Matthew) Rodrigues; her sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Russell Jacoby, and her brother and sister-in-law Richard and Dawn Buchanan; and loving extended family.

The family will have a celebration of life on April 6, 2025 at 2:00PM at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch, CO. The service will be followed by light refreshments in the Fellowship Hall.

There will also be a celebration to honor Joan at Silver Bay later in the summer of 2025.
