Joan's obituary

Joan Marie Carter April 4, 1932–July 17, 2022 in Livermore, California.

Joan passed away quietly in her sleep, Sunday morning July 17th, from natural causes. Joan was born in San Francisco to Peter Commins and Rose Marie Commins(Barbano). Joan, the youngest of three, was raised in San Francisco and attended Balboa High School. Growing up, she enjoyed all that the city had to offer–surfing with her brothers at the local beaches, ice skating and swimming at the Sutro Baths, and family outings in Golden Gate Park. As a teenager, she spent the summer months camping in Yosemite Valley. In her younger years she worked as an usher at the San Francisco Opera House, an ice skating instructor at Winterland, and later as a bus driver for the city of San Francisco. During the 70s she moved to Campbell, California and worked for IBM. Joan later went back to school and became a CNA, working with the elderly until her retirement. Upon retirement, Joan moved to Coarsegold, California with her husband Neal Carter. It was the best time of her life. Both Joan and Neal enjoyed the outdoors, and often went camping and fishing at their favorite spot in Fish Camp, located outside Yosemite Valley. After her husband passed, Joan moved in with her daughter and son-in-law in Livermore, California. Joan became a well-known resident in Livermore, particularly in the downtown area where she often visited the local establishments on her scooter, and made many friends along the way. She had a lively spirit and was an easy conversationalist. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Carter, her son Timothy James, and her brother William. She is survived by her daughters, Peggy Ann, Annette Marie, her son Joseph Allen, her son-in-law Timothy Lee, her daughter-in-law Alma, her grandchildren, Trevor, Melissa, Matthew, her brother Richard, her step-son Tim Stottlemyer, and hundreds of friends.

She will always be known as the woman with personality, who loved adventure, and had a never ending enthusiasm for life.

I hope they have puzzles and wine in heaven.
