Joan's obituary

Joan Baughman Binford, 88, of Charleston, WV, wife of the late Bedell Van Binford, passed away September 26, 2023, after a short illness. She was born May 14, 1935, in Widen, WV to the late Flavy and Chessie Baughman. Joan attended the last student class of McMillian Hospital School of Nursing in 1959 and worked as Head Nurse for Charleston Memorial Hospital’s new ICU in 1962.

Joan is survived by her children: daughter, Kimberly Binford Mannion (Mark), son, David Binford (Sureeporn): grandchildren, Bryan (Kristian), Matthew and Daniel, great grandchildren, Liam and Hudson, sister, Dorothy Butler, brother, Paul Baughman and special nieces, Nancy and Sharon.

Joan was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 40 years and also attended Philadelphia Methodist Church in Fort Mill, SC. Joan will be remembered for her natural willingness to help and care for others, her strong faith, her love of nature and art, being an amazing Girl Scout Leader, leading children on adventure walks along the Sunrise Trail, long bike rides and her fun-filled gingerbread man parties.

Family has requested donations in lieu of flowers, to the Parkinson's Foundation. A celebration service will be announced at a later date. Online condolences can be left at everloved.com.
