Joan's obituary
Joan Patricia (Beals) Carter passed away on March 1, 2023. Joan was born September 15, 1929 to Vernon and Irene Beals in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She grew up in Oklahoma City and attended The Hockaday School in Dallas. She was married to William Branham for 17 years, briefly living in Chicago before returning to Oklahoma City, where they had three children. She later married Lewis Carter, creating a blended family of six children. She worked alongside Lewis at Comfort Inc. Heating and Cooling company for many years. Lewis and Joan spent many happy summers houseboating at Tenkiller and Grand Lake with their children and friends. They also enjoyed an active social life in Oklahoma City until his passing in 1993. Joan volunteered at the Baptist Hospital and the Cowboy Hall of Fame and was also involved with the Art League and Ballet Oklahoma.
Joan resided in Oklahoma City until 2001, when she moved to Vancouver, Washington to be with her daughter and family. In Vancouver, she was very involved with her grandchildren’s lives and enjoyed volunteering at the school library.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Sally Yearout, son-in-law, Russell Yearout, granddaughter, Kacie Yearout, son-in-law, Brian Walsh, and grandson, Wyatt Yearout. She had a younger brother, Kent Beals, who passed away in 2008.
Jama, we greatly miss your smile, french toast, guacamole and love of Scotch and Sodas. Thank you for the countless memories of Quail Creek pool in OKC, your apartment, club green meadows, the movies, the mall, and of course Shari’s diner.
