Jimmy's obituary
Jimmy C Mason was born on May 11, 1947 in Fort Towson, Oklahoma to Buford Henry Mason and Ella Mae Morrison Mason. He was one of 11 children. He spent most of his life in the tri-state area of Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. Sadly his life here ended on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023. He didn’t make this last journey alone because, as in life, also in death, Jean was by his side.
His childhood was spent in Oklahoma. His primary and secondary education was in Bennington Ok and Westville, Ok. He graduated from Bennington Senior High School in the Class of 1967. He then attended college at Oklahoma State University.
Leaving college he married Nancy Vera Dale Barrett and instantly became father to a family of 5 children. He never considered them as his ‘step kids’ but as his kids. From this marriage he became father to 4 more children. He didn’t stop there because through the years he met and loved many who now consider him their father/father figure. From these 9 kids he became grandfather and great -grandfather many times over. His heart was big enough to encompass all of them. He passed on to his kids skills that they still use to this day.
He held various jobs through the years but the one he liked the best was viewing the US through the windshield of a truck as a professional truck driver. He loved the open road. In the summers he would take grandkids on runs with him.
On May 30, 2010 he married Jean Holland. They walked hand in hand together in life and did so in death. Their life together was full of love for each other and others. Jim’s love for people didn’t stop with his immediate family. Jim and Jean took their love to nursing homes in the area. They would go with their musical instruments and play for them and sing with them. They brought much joy to the residents. If he knew you needed something and he had it he would give it to you. In this world there are so many greedy people but Jim was not. He looked for how he could help anyone he met.
There were many things Jim loved. He loved life, he loved Jean. He loved his children. He loved God. He loved music. He loved people. He loved flowers and animals. He showed this love every day of his life. When you heard him sing you felt this love. There are many who can attest to his love and how he shared it with them in their lives. He will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by 9 children: Michael (Mike) Woodard of Georgia, Donald Woodard (wife Karen) of Princeton, Tx, Wayland (Wade) Woodard (wife Kandi) of Tomball, Tx, Cindy Woodard Williams of Achille, Ok, David (Bear) Woodard (wife Melissa) of Springfield, Mo, Jimmy Bryan Mason of Louisville, Ky, Robin Mason of Ar, Roger Mason (wife Margie)of Siloam Springs, Ar., and Henry Mason (wife Missy) of Memphis, Tn.
He is survived by 6 siblings: 3 Brothers: Richard Mason of Westville, Ok., Roy Mason of Coalgate, Ok., Danny Mason (wife Crystal) of Fairview, Ok.; 3 sisters: Marilynn Bayles of Atoka, Ok., Sue Bensley (husband Paul) of Pauls Valley, Ok. and Martha Lunsford (husband Charlie) of Durant, Ok. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces.
