Jimmy's obituary

Jimmy Held, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away January 6, 2026 at the age of 70.

After a proud career as a drummer in many bands along with a long stint as both a DJ and live drummer for the Dixie Electric Company, Jim took a job with Newcom's Tavern. He loved to entertain; he could talk to anyone, eventually becoming a manager. It was there he met the love of his life. Before long they were married with children. Jim then set his sights on a degree in Physical Therapy from The Ohio State University. He loved helping people, going above and beyond for his patients and leaving impressions in the way that only he could.

If you knew Jim, you know he always had a project. After moving with his family to Bellbrook, he could often be found remodeling our home or working around the woods with his tractor. He loved the property he built.

In retirement, he became an incredible grandfather. "Papaw" never lost his spark for music. In recent years he began to restore the drum set from his gigging days and even took up the mandolin. Through this, he remained a dedicated husband and father, always there to listen, offer sound advice

or simply a warm hug. Jim spent many evenings playing along in friendly competition to Wheel of Fortune with his wife. As in all things, they made a wonderful team.

A word has not yet been made for how much he is missed,

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Laura Held; his sons, Maxwell Held and Samuel Held; and his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Dicus. He was the proud Papaw to three granddaughters: Ioma, Iris, and Etta Jane.

He is also survived by his sisters, Cynthia Held (Michael Leibold), Valerie Held (John Ball), and Mary Nash (Gregory); his brother-in-law, Kenneth Downing (Jean); his mother-in-law, Norma Jean Riley, and his father-in-law, Ellsworth Downing.. He will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Ruth Held.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made at Jim's memorial website https://everloved.com/life-of… to assist with final expenses and to support our family during this difficult transition.

Please join us as we remember and honor the life of Jim. We will gather January 23, 2026, for a visitation at 12:00-1:00, followed by a memorial service. Afterward, we would love for everyone to stay and share a meal and memories with us in the Gathering Hall. All events will be held at David's Cemetery, Community Mausoleum, 4600 Mad River Road, Dayton, Ohio 45429.
