Jimmy's obituary

We sorrowfully announce the passing of Mr. Jimmy Ray Barefield, who departed this life on November 22, 2023. Born on December 24, 1955, Jimmy Ray filled his 67 years with warmth, kindness, and an enviable dedication to both work and family.

Known for his great happiness, immense love for all who he connected with, and his extraordinary work ethic, Jimmy Ray would often be found tending to his garden or on a farm, always willing to teach anyone who showed an interest. His valuable lessons in kindness and hard work resonate in the hearts of those he left behind. His passion and commitment were reflected in the way he worked tirelessly till the end, setting an example of how to treat people with respect and kindness.

His legacy is of a good-hearted man who was wholly committed to his family, always standing up for them and never tolerating any ill-treatment towards them. His spirit continues to live through his loved ones, who fondly remember and miss him.

Jimmy Ray is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Barefield; his sons, Jamey Barefield (Deanna) of Webb Alabama and Jimmy Shell of Georgia ; his brother, Hilton Barefield (Brenda);and his sisters, Betty (Bett) Davis  and Pamela Sue Roberts

He leaves behind a host of grandchildren, each holding a special place in his heart. They include Kristian Barefield of Webb Alabama; Joseph  Roberts (Brianna) of Webb Alabama, Nathaniel Barefield (Gabby) of Webb Alabama, Tyler Shell of Abbeville Alabama; Taylor Williams of Columbia Alabama; Billie Cordell (Tommy) of Webb Alabama, Alyssa  Sketoe (Colby) of Webb Alabama, Gabe Shell of Abbeville Alabama, and Jalen Shell of Abbeville Alabama; and 6 Great GrandKids, and multiple Neices and Nephews. His love for them was boundless, and his influence will continue to shape their lives.

Jimmy Ray was predeceased by his parents, Jesse James Barefield and Mae McKee Barefield; and his siblings, Billy Joe Barefield, Willie James Barefield, Sarah Helen Brannon (Mathis),and Mabel Hutto, Willie James Barefield, Beulah Mae Davis, and his stepson Samuel Leon Shell;

In these times of sorrow, we remember Jimmy Ray’s happy soul, his unwavering love for his family, and his commitment to teaching kindness and work ethic to all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. His life was a testament to these values, and his legacy will continue to inspire those he left behind.
