Jimmie's obituary
At a very young age, Jimmie, his mother, and siblings moved to Hamilton, Ohio. After the death of his mother, at the age of 15, Jimmie moved to Muskegon, Michigan to be with extended family. There, he attended Muskegon High School, Class of 1969. In Muskegon, he met Hettie Churchwell, and married in 1977. Together, they had two daughters, LaTonya and Anitra. Upon becoming a father, he felt it was important to give his new young family a better life, and he joined the army in 1980.
While in the army, Jimmie was stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland, Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort Wainwright, Alaska. After 12 years in the army, he was honorably discharged, and he made Alaska his home. After his divorce, Jimmie moved from Fairbanks, Alaska to Anchorage, Alaska, where he continued his military service in the Air Force National Guard, and as a civilian in the Air Force. He faithfully served his country for 30 years, retiring as a federal civilian servant in 2019.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his fiance, Beverly Dillard of Anchorage, AK; children, LaTonya Woods of Detroit, MI, Anitra Woods of Charleston, SC, Damarcus Davis of Fairbanks, AK; grandchildren, Adriana Acosta, and Amaria Chavis; siblings, Eloise Brown of Kentwood, MI, Barbara (Derrick) White of Kentwood, MI, and Samuel (Brenda) Brown; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends.
A private viewing for family will take place at Kehl's Legacy Funeral Home. Family and friends are welcomed to attend a celebration of his life on October 7, 2020 from 2pm -4pm at the American Legion Post 29 1467 Muldoon Rd, Anchorage, AK. He will be lain to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
