Jimmie D. Owten Sr. (73) was born August 21, 1952 in Clarksdale, MS to Lois and Charlie Owten, he passed away on April 8, 2026 in Marrero, LA. From his first marriage came 3 children, Jimmie Jr, Sonya, and Rico. In 1977 Jimmie moved to New Orleans and met Charlene Black Owten and became dad to Brandon Vance. Jimmie and Charlene later married and were together for 23 years.

Jimmie Sr, lived a vibrant life, having served in the United States Army in the early 1970's. After moving to New Orleans, he worked for Southern Pacific Railroad from 1978 – 1996. For many years Jimmie visited True Vine Baptist Church in Westwego, LA, with his family.

Jimmie Sr, leaves the following family to mourn his passing, Children; Sonya Owten of Georgia, Rico Readus Owten of St. Louis, Missouri, and Brandon J. Vance of Dallas, Texas. Brothers; James Owten of East Chicago Heights, Illinois and Tommie Owten of Chattanooga, TN. Sisters; Louise Owten of Clarksdale, MS and Charlene Webb of Bakersfield, CA, along with a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Jimmie Sr, is preceded in death by his parents; Lois & Charlie Owten, his son Jimmie Owten Jr., brothers; Lacy Owten, Hubert Owten, and sisters; Earlene Thomas and Mae Ollie Mosley.

We want to recognize all of those friends and loved ones that helped our father, looked after him, fed him, and became a part of his life over the years. Harrece, Tara, Robert, Mrs. Wanda, and many others. You are not forgotten, your presence and importance to dad does not go unnoticed. Thank you so much!
