Jimmie's obituary
Jimmie Lee Moreland, 83, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born on May 4, 1941, in Edinburgh, Virginia, to James and Dolly Moreland, one of six children. He was predeceased by siblings Jake, William, and Betty, and is survived by Edward and Arlene.
Jimmie was known for his big heart, passionate spirit, and the way he lit up every room. He served briefly in the U.S. Marine Corps before a medical discharge and held deep pride in his Shawnee heritage, passed down through his great-grandmother.
He began his career with Allstate in 1970 and later transitioned to the automotive industry, becoming an executive at Prestige Motors from 1986 until his retirement in 2007. Respected and beloved by employees and colleagues, Jimmie was known for his generosity, integrity, and unwavering support of others.
A devoted father, he coached his daughters’ soccer team, never missed a school event, and filled their lives with music, adventure, and laughter. His colorful sayings became family lore. He loved golf, jokes, music, and gatherings where his humor and authenticity shone.
Jimmie will be remembered for his generosity, loyalty, and love for life—but most of all, for the deep love he gave his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Jaime Moreland and Jessica DeCourcey; and beloved grandchildren, Colin, James, Avery Grace, and Maisie.
A celebration of life will be held on June 14. Please contact the family for details.
