Jim's obituary

James Patrick Davin

May 3, 1955 – July 13, 2025

James Patrick “Jim” Davin, known affectionately as Jake, Jim, Jimbo, and Mr. Davin, passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 70.

Born on May 3, 1955, in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, Jim was the son of Margaret and Thomas”Red” Davin. He grew up alongside his brother, Tom Davin, and was part of a close-knit group of friends who called themselves the “Grove Street Groovsters.” From an early age, Jim was passionate about basketball, spending countless hours at the neighborhood courts and developing a love for the game that would stay with him throughout his life. A proud Pittsburgh native, Jim was also a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan and never missed an opportunity to cheer on his team—no matter how far he lived from his hometown.

After graduating college from Penn State University, Jim ventured west and made Arizona his home. Captivated by the Grand Canyon’s beauty, he spent many years hiking, camping, and fishing in the great outdoors.

In Flagstaff, Arizona, Jim began a family with Angela, raising three children: Jade, Bryce, and Marikah. He went on to pursue higher education and built a rewarding career as a teacher in Show Low, Arizona. At Show Low Junior High School, Jim taught mathematics and coached basketball and track, inspiring generations of students and athletes with his encouragement, humor, and unwavering dedication.

Jim is survived by his children, Bryce (Lawryn) Davin and Marikah Davin; his brother, Tom (Pat) Davin; and his grandchildren, Delaney and Jade Davin, Brooklynn and Tinlee Willis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Tom Davin, and his beloved son, Jade Davin.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family invites friends to honor Jim’s memory by taking a hike, shooting some hoops, or spending time in nature—celebrating the life he loved so deeply.
