Jim's obituary
Jim Coston was born on July 26, 1953, in Presque Isle, Maine and passed away on May 26, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born into a military family, Jim had the unique opportunity to live in exotic locations such as Tokyo and Bangkok, experiences that enriched his early life with diverse cultures and perspectives.
Jim pursued higher education at St. Petersburg College, earning his associate's degree before transferring to the University of Tampa. In 1977 he obtained his bachelor's degree in education marking the beginning of his journey in the field of education. Jim dedicated three years to the Hillsborough County Schools system as a Phys. Ed. teacher, shaping young minds and fostering a love for sports.
In the summer of 1980, with his first child on the way, Jim accepted an exciting job opportunity with Westcoast Roofing Supply knowing that it would allow him to exercise his entrepreneurial spirit and better provide for his family. Over an impressive 44-year career, he was known as an inspiring mentor, brilliant strategist and leader, a talented operator, and perhaps most notably, an absolute rainmaker. His selflessness, caring nature, affability, and wit made him a beloved figure among colleagues and friends alike (let's be honest they were all his friends). Jim had a unique ability to light up any room, always leaving with his signature phrase, "I'm glad you got to see me," which he adopted from his dad.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Ann, and his three children, Jim, Christie, and Makenzie. He also leaves behind two cherished grandchildren, Jimmy and Lily; his three sisters, Cathleen, Laura, and Barbara; his brothers-in-law, Donnie and Jim; two step-children, Katie and Amanda; and two step-grandchildren, Owen and Emma.
Jim Coston will be remembered for his extraordinary life, his dedication to his family and career, and the indelible mark he left on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, laughter, and leadership will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
