Jess's obituary
Dr. Jess Annai Millar (pronouns: they, them, Jess), beloved daughter, sibling, auncle, life-partner, and friend, passed away on April 13, 2024. Jess was born on April 22, 1986 in San Mateo, California, to Anne Millar and Alan Millar. Jess would go on to love, lead, and become friends with their three younger siblings, Michael, Laura, and Alison.
Throughout their academic journey, Jess made significant contributions to bioinformatics, microbiology, and public health, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives. Jess was more than just a scientist and statistician; they were a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who knew them. Jess leaves behind a legacy of courage, compassion, and advocacy that will continue to inspire and improve the lives of generations to come.
Jess battled long COVID from 2020 until their passing in 2024. Jess is survived by their parents (Anne and Alan Millar), life-partner (Dr. Chanese Forté), three younger siblings, niblings (Cyrus, Charlotte, and Walker), two brother-in-laws, and countless chosen family, friends, mentors, mentees, and online best friends. Jess will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Though they may no longer be with us, their spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved them.
