Jerry's obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Mr. Jerry Simpson on January 11, 2025. Born on December 18, 1933 in Postville, Iowa , Jerry lived an extraordinary life of 91 years filled with cherished moments. Jerry graduated Orchard High School in Orchard, Iowa in 1951 and joined the Navy in 1952. He married Ila Schultz in 1957, the mother of Jerry’s three children. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1959. He then started his career working for General Motors (GM) and stayed with GM until he retired. In his retirement he enjoyed long summers at his cabin “up north”, near Duluth, Minnesota and wintering in Leesberg, Florida.
Jerry is lovingly remembered by his children; son Terry Simpson (Theresa), and daughters Kimberly Linnell (Vern) and Jacqueline Meyer (Kelly). He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and his brothers, Keith (Karen) and Dean (Jackie) Simpson. His legacy will be carried on not just through his family, but the countless lives he touched.
Predecreasing Jerry are his parents, Ray Simpson and Mabel Folsom as well as his brothers David and Donald Simpson. Also preceding him was his long time companion Sandra Scharnott.
Jerry had a passion for sports. His loyalties distinctly lay with the Minnesota teams; the Vikings and the Twins. Countless hours were spent in front of the television or in the stadium, cheering on his favorite teams, a love he has passed onto his family. He often would boast about his family football pool wins as well as his Cornhole game victories.
When he was not enjoying sports, he often indulged in a round of 500 (his favorite card game) with friends and family. Jerry also found solace in the simple joys of life, his favorite of which was fishing at his cabin. This became his sanctuary, a place where he felt the most peace.
Jerry has left a void with family and friends, his memory, however, will forever be ingrained in our hearts. May his soul rest in peace.
A celebration of life will be held June 21, 2025 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
