Jerry's obituary
In Loving Memory of Jerry Chen
June 16, 1953 – June 3, 2025
Jerry Chen, beloved brother, uncle, godfather, friend, and entrepreneur, passed away on June 3, 2025, just shy of his 72nd birthday. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Jerry lived a life marked by imagination, warmth, and a tireless spirit of generosity.
Affectionately known as “Jo Jo” — a Mandarin nickname for “uncle” that reflected both his family role and his approachable, endearing nature — Jerry was a man whose presence brought comfort, lightness, and laughter. He was a natural optimist, gifted with a smile that never faded, even in challenging times. He moved through life with a gentle grace, always choosing kindness and softness when it mattered most.
Jerry was the founder of Cybernet International, where he served as CEO for three decades. A creative dreamer at heart, he often had new ideas brewing — not just for business, but for how to make life better for others. After the loss of his beloved wife, Sou Hwa Fan, Jerry retired, honoring her memory and the love they shared by turning more deeply to his friends, family, and community.
Those who knew Jerry will remember his keen sense of humor, his tender spirit, and his unwavering support. Whether you were family, a friend, or simply someone who crossed his path, you were likely touched by his generosity — be it a thoughtful gesture, a word of encouragement, or one of the many quiet acts of service he gave so freely.
Jerry held a deep love for animals, especially his three cherished dogs, who were constant companions and sources of joy.
He is survived by his loving siblings Ann Chen, Laura Hsu, and Chih Chieh Chen, as well as a wide circle of nieces, nephews, godchildren, and dear friends who felt like family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sou Hwa Fan, and his parents, Hsien and Lan-In Chen.
Jerry earned his bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics from Fu Jen Catholic University and later received a Master’s in Computer Science from the University of Southern California — a foundation that fueled his career, but more importantly, his passion for innovation and building something meaningful.
To know Jerry was to be loved by him — unconditionally, quietly, and completely. He will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held Friday, June 27, 2025 at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, California.
