A Great Elk, a Great Guy and a Great Friend!  I'm So Sorry I didn't find out about it till now.  My memories mostly centered around the Elks and Jerry did some GREAT things in our Lodge and the community.   He will be missed - especially by me.

John McGinnis PER

Very sorry for your loss.  He was my lawyer for my divorce and I appreciated his help.
Sorry for the loss of Jerome. He always made Christmas special wrapping gifts at the Elks. Prayers for the Family.

Sending our condolences to Jan, David, Daniel. My husband went to school with Jerry. Our kids were in school, band, etc with David.
Jerry and I were best friends for life. Have not seen Jerry for years however my family still in Kankakee were in contact over the years.  Whiffle ball and paper delivery. Basketball in the driveway drove Mr Shapiro crazy. We still did it!! Love You Jerry. We will play ball again. Butch 😇😎

To Jerry's family...

I'm very sorry to hear about Jerry's passing. May you all find comfort in the good memories he has left behind and may his soul rest in peace.

Jan,David and Daniel. You all have our deepest sympathy.  Jerry was such a nice person.  We remember the boys baseball games when David played with our Matt.  Please take care.
Jerry was my colleague, fellow White Sox sufferer and my friend.
Jan, Sorry to hear about Jerry. Please accept our family’s sincere condolences.  Haven’t kept in contact since you moved,  but have many fond memories. You may recall the story about Jerry and I when we were in High School PE class and we were talking about both becoming Attorneys and practicing law together. Many years later we did exactly that. He was a very good attorney and professionally handled his cases. His devotion to his community and family has been a blessing to all. Rest easy Jerry.
I am so sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing. As you know, we shared a lot of good times over the years. He will be missed. A wonderful human being.
Jan, I am very sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. It was a pleasure meeting the both of you. He is already greatly missed.
I’m so sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing. Sending prayers.

Jan,

I just heard of Jerry’s passing.  We had some great times together growing up in Kankakee.

When we were in Junior high, he talked about running for president and I would be his secretary of the interior, since I was the tree hugger at the time.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Jan, so very sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing.  I’ll remember him as always friendly and kind.  May you and the boys find comfort in your precious memories, Michelle (Boie) Fitts

Jan, David, and Dan,

I am so sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing.  I always enjoyed When he’d stop by Steuben to see how things were going. My condolences to you all.

Prayers for the family .Jerry was a great guy..Tony 'Cob 'Korzenewski  Centralia  #493
Jerry was a wonderful guy and i think i knew him better than almost anyone other than his family.    We practiced law together and were felt like family.  Even though far away in the last few years we could touch base on the phone and it was like no time had passed.   I was especially privileged in that he called me the day before he died to tell me of his diagnosis to tell me and to tell me the anticipated treatment.

I am sorry to hear of Jerry's passing and am sending warm hugs and prayers to all of you.  Jerry and I served on the Kankakee School District Board of Education together.  I appreciated his discussions, guidance, and questions provided before votes were casted and I trusted his judgement.

A few years later, I had the privilege of teaching Daniel for two years along with my own daughter.  A fun memory was the first day of school when Daniel and Alex were paired as "Study Buddies".  They sat next to each other and completed a venn diagram to learn more about what they had in common as well as differences.  In the center, they wrote, "Served on the school board.  Went to Kankakee high schools. Old."  When it came time to share, Daniel said, "Both Alex and my parents are old compared to everyone else's".  I laughed so hard and naturally, shared that with Jerry and Jan.

The Shapiro family have always been important members of the Kankakee community; having a history somewhere enriches our lives.  Blessings to all of you.

This brings me & my family great sorrow. I will remember Jerry as an honorable man, leader & mentor. I was blessed enough to see him in action for many years and have learned many things from him. He was someone with deep knowledge and a calming demeanor and was the best friend to my father.

I am comforted in knowing his next coffee is with Norm.

My heartfelt condolences to the Shapiro family.

Oh man!   The Shapiro family warmly welcomed me as a buddy of his kid brother, Todd.  I’m sure because of their Uncle, Jerry had an interest in politics.  I was just a naive kid, but he was passionate and started me thinking about a bigger world than Kankakee.   Thank you, Jerry, the light of the world dims a bit today because of grief, but will shine tomorrow brighter because of you.
