Jerry's obituary
He came into this world on November 11, 1952 in New Orleans Louisiana, and entered into eternal rest on April 29, 2025 in Austin, Texas. He left behind a legacy of love and innumerous stories and memories, aka 'Jerry Tales', of a life well lived. Jerry worked in San Antonio for the Benson Management for a number of years before then embarking on building his own business in Austin, Texas. He and Pam bought property out by Lake Travis and built the Drop Anchor Restaurant and Hudson Bend RV Park later known as the Armadillo RV Park. His business training at the Benson Management Company prepared him well for managing a business of his own. Jerry was a man who radiated warmth and kindness. He was consistently welcoming, generous, and thoughtful in his interactions with others, including his numerous employees. His jovial personality and loving heart left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He had the innate ability to make people feel seen and heard, frequently reminding those around him about the importance of respect and understanding. An incredibly loving husband and father, he raised two boys with the love of his life, Pam. His sons, Nick and Jerry Joe are testimony to his lifelong guidance. He exemplified to both how to show love, generosity, kindness and respect, but also how to set boundaries and how to move through the bumps, rocks and hills of life. Jerry was someone who knew how to enjoy the present, and how to really appreciate the good. He embraced his daughter-in-law (Vanessa) and her family in a way that touched all their hearts to the core. Blending families and spending time together over the past 5 years will forever remain an honor to them and for other extended family and friends. As we are reflecting on our memories of Jerry, I'm sure you will feel the same.
His family and friends will continue to walk through the shock and grief of losing such a beloved man, but we will walk forward together, always remembering both his legacies and his examples.
Known for his love of sharing stories, Jerry was a captivating presence in any gathering. He was a constant advocate for the power of a good story, and was truly adept knowing when to embellish, as needed, the ever entertaining 'Jerry Tales'. He enjoyed spending time with his family, both close and extended. He simply knew how to appreciate the simple things in life like fishing, something he loved to do any time the weather permitted. And he loved to take anyone who wanted to go either at the coast or on the lake. It was always a fun ride. And it was these values and passions that he passed on to those closest to him, and they will continue to be echoed in the lives of his loved ones.
Jerry's greatest accomplishments were deeply personal. He was immensely proud of his sons, fondly referred to as 'My boys', and his long, loving marriage to his wife, Pam, remained a source of sincere happiness. His family was his world, and he dedicated his life to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for his loved ones.
Survived by his wife, Pamela [and Francis family], sons, Nicolas and Jerry Joe Benson; daughter-in-law, Vanessa; sister, Michelle and other Benson siblings, as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts and uncles, Jerry's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. However, his life will forever be a testament to a life lived and loved to the fullest. His legacy of kindness, storytelling, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Jerry's departure is a significant loss, but his love will live on in the hearts of his family and everyone he touched. Each person who had the privilege of knowing Jerry carries a piece of his spirit, ensuring that his memory will forever be a part of us.
