Jeremiah's obituary

Without further ado, here is our tribute to Jeremiah Priser

Jeremiah “Jerry, Myah” Priser of Newnan, GA passed away on October 27, 2024 surrounded by loved ones at home after a fierce one-two punch from cancer. (He would want you know that he successfully kicked the colon cancer in the junk before the liver cancer eventually KO’d him.)

Jerry was born in Plympton, MA on December 9, 1979 to David and Carol (Martin) Priser. He spent his childhood as an Army brat, living in Hanau, Giessen, and Wiesbaden Germany before moving back to the US. Here, he graduated from Sandy Creek High School in Georgia and attended Manchester College in Indiana as a legacy student where he became a legend known by many names: Georgia, The Shocker, and Jer-Bear.

After saying peace out to the Chet, Jerry married Jennifer "Amazon, Jen, the Wife, Yaya" (Carroll) on November 11, 2003. Together they raised one kickass son, Tristan "Tata, Cousin Pate", and many fur babies, including Ares "Mink Mink, Kitty", Theo "Squigglebear", and Athena "Fatness", who crossed the Rainbow Bridge just days before Jerry so he would have a friend there to greet him.

Throughout his adult life, Jerry worked in the automotive industry. His favorite role was, as he would describe it, a painter. However, anyone who was familiar with Jerry’s work painting cars knows that he was actually an artist who had a deep understanding of the intricacies of materials and color. His appreciation for aesthetics earned him a reputation for being the best in the business. He took pride in his tools, his process, and the results of his labor. He loved making his clients happy.

Something else that Jerry loved? Shoes. Especially vintage and specialty sneakers, of which he had both encyclopedic knowledge and a museum-worthy collection. Jerry’s shoes were always the capstone to his finely curated outfits, which usually also included a fresh, flat-billed baseball cap or Faux-lex (because fake bling is still blingy bling). Jerry wanted everyone to appreciate the joy of shoes as much as he did and took on the role of “Shoe Fairy” for his loved ones. He may not have known your birthday, but he knew your shoe size, and he was always shopping for new kicks for those he loved. No friend of Jerry was allowed to wear basic b*tch shoes.

Another thing that Jerry really loved was food—making it, eating it, and sharing the experience of it with everyone he cared about. Food was another of Jerry’s love languages; just ask anyone who went to a restaurant with him, or attended one of the many meals he hosted, or was present for one of his Hor-Nights. Some of Jerry’s strongest opinions were about meals he’d had, from his philosophy on barbeque joints (they’ll either have great meat or sides, but no one does both right) to his deep love for Waffle House (no one does grits better).

Apart from his parents, his wife and son, Jerry is also survived his brother Chris "the Bro", sister-in-law Christina, nephew Jacob "PooBerry" and niece Chloe of Brisbane, QLD; uncle and aunt Joe and Brandy Priser of Clearwater, FL; mother-in-law Lynn Trucks-Burton of Newnan, GA; father-in-law Aaron (Sara Kai) Burton. He also had a slew of other loved ones he would want acknowledged by their given and/or nicknames because, like Jesus, when Jerry loved you, he renamed you. He is responsible for most of the nicknames below: Aunt “S'Aunt” Sharon Smith; cousins Samantha “Sam-am” Smith and Ricktavious Cochran along with their children Mariah, Jareese "Bubba", and Auri Smith, Payton, Kane "Dude", Keontae "Keon", and Maverick “Mav” Cochran, and Tobias “Tobes” Green; Heather "Hedders" and James Pettus with their children Brayden, Liam "Wee-um", and Jaxsen. He had many friends that were his chosen family including Jason Moulton; Lisabeth "Bunny" and Jon “Thank You Jon” Conger along with their children Lilah "Squig-L" and Brigette "Gangsta B"; Amanda "Squared" and Matt Loggins along with their children Isabella and Jacob "Snacks!"; Amanda and Jamar Joiner along with their children Zowie "ZoZo" and Gavin McCarty, Zion, and Mia "MJ" Joiner; Tim and Bre Turpin along with their children Wyatt and Garrett Turpin; Clarence "Super G" Scott and Vanessa Ruiz; Noah Scott; Raeann "Rae" Priser; and Brian “BP” Polston—a special thanks to his wife, yet another Amanda, who offered her expertise and love to him and his family in their hardest moments.

Jerry also had countless friends that started as coworkers—too many to name here—and he was grateful to each and every one who reached out during his illness. He truly loved you all.

Jerry did not want a funeral or a wake, and that will be honored. In lieu of flowers, please send any financial support to his wife, as she deserves compensation for all that she’s done for Jerry both before but especially since he became sick, and so far the Lord has not seen it fit for her to win the lottery. To honor Jerry, please also send any and all photos/stories you have of him to Jennifer so she can preserve these memories for her and Tristan.
