Jeralyn's obituary

Jeralyn Moriba Jackson passed away peacefully on May 15, 2023 in Manhattan, New York at the age of 53. She was a vibrant and adventurous individual, known for her love of art, fashion, gardening and travel. She enjoyed supporting her friends and family with her unique community-building gifts.

Moriba dedicated her life to various roles, including librarian, art curator, teacher, historian, and activist, fighting for causes such as affordable healthcare, housing equity, and against police brutality.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, on October 1, 1969, Moriba grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Midtown High School. She earned her B.A. and Master in Library Science from Clark Atlanta University.

In New York City, Moriba thrived as a Supervising Librarian at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library, coordinating programs for the community. She actively participated in organizations such as ImageNation Cinema Foundation, Black Gotham, and the Brooklyn Queens Land Trust (BQLT).

Moriba’s love for gardening, zest for life, and keen intellect inspired those around her. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Instead of flowers, donations can be made to BQLT, Clark Atlanta University and the New York Public Library (NYPL) to honor Moriba’s memory and continue her legacy.

Our beloved Moriba leaves to cherish her memories: her loving parents, Alexander and Bessie; sister Jewell; brother Alex; sister-in-law Jasmine “Jazz” Jackson; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
