Jerald's obituary

Jerald Robert Buckley

February 1, 1989 – August 6, 2025

Atlanta, Georgia

Jerald Robert Buckley, affectionately known to his family as “JR Baby” and to all others as “JR,” fell asleep in death on August 6, 2025, at the age of 36. Born on February 1, 1989, JR was a man whose generous heart, radiant smile, and uplifting spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

He was the beloved son of the late Cleavan Buckley (d. December 23, 2024) and Barbara Buckley, who survives him.

JR is survived by his children: Jerald Robert Patrick Buckley,  Anabel Capri Quilter, Jerald Robert Buckley Jr, Paris Alysse Buckley, Nolan Cleavan Buckley, Zarah Athaliah Buckley, Mason Watler, and Chaston Watler. He is also survived by his twin sister, Jaleisia Buckley; his brothers, Jaymes (Caroline) Buckley and Johnny (Lanette) Buckley; and his sisters, Jennifer (Chavis) Clemons, Jessica (Tray) Howard, Jhosetta Morrow, Chanice Buckley, Nicole (Steve) Matthew, Tonis Buckley, and Sheila Buckley. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who became family.

By profession, JR was a Logistics Professional and was loved and admired by his colleagues for his warmth, professionalism, and ability to connect with others. He loved to make people smile and feel good about themselves, even people he didn't know. Beyond his career, he found his true calling by volunteering in his community as a youth sports coach. Passionate about little league baseball and football, JR became known as the ultimate motivator—the “hype man”—who brought unmatched energy to the field. With his booming voice, contagious enthusiasm, and signature "bear" hugs, he encouraged every child and connected with them on an individual level, regardless of which team they played for. He had a gift for seeing people beyond what they presented on the surface, recognizing their true potential. JR understood the power of encouragement and the difference that belonging to a supportive community could make in the lives of young people. For him, the greatest joy of the game was watching his players grow and thrive—both on and off the field.”

A proud supporter of the Detroit Tigers and Lions, JR was a loyal fan through every season. He found joy in fishing, playing cards, and spending time with loved ones. Known for his humor, playful teasing, and lighthearted nature, he will be remembered most for his ability to lift spirits, bring people together, and share unconditional love.

JR’s life was a testament to joy, resilience, and generosity. His memory will live on in the lives of his children, family, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
