Jennifer's obituary
Jennifer Ann Creager, 57, of San Diego passed away Dec. 25, 2023 after an eight-year courageous battle with lymphoma. Born in Santa Clara, CA, she moved to San Diego to attend UCSD where she majored in cognitive and computer science. She then achieved a Master's in Computer Science at San Diego State University, completing her thesis, Collaborative Construction of Argumentation: A Multidisciplinary Study of Software Design Meetings. She then worked as a software programmer at various tech companies before landing at Intuit, where she held a variety of positions during a very successful 23-year career.
It was at one of her early jobs at Expersoft in 1996 where she met Brad Creager. The company didn't last long, but their relationship flourished. They married in 2000 in a beautiful sunset ceremony in Mission Bay at the Bahia Resort followed by a reception on the Bahia Belle Paddle Wheel Boat. They then settled down in Mira Mesa where they had their first daughter, Cadi, in 2002. They then moved to Scripps Ranch in 2004 and had their second daughter, Delaney, in 2006. Cadi began Irish dancing as a 7 year old, and went on to compete worldwide in the sport, ranking among the best in the world. The youngest daughter, Delaney, also started dancing and competed alongside her sister and also enjoyed softball and theater. The Irish dancing community and the competitions (called a Feis) became a big focus of the family's life for many years, taking them around the country and the world to Canada, England and Ireland, and to countless craft breweries along the way.
From the moment she was first diagnosed with lymphoma in 2015, Jennifer started researching the disease. She read medical journals, case studies, researched clinical trials and the newest drugs. She joined several CLL (chronic lymphocytic lymphoma) Society groups where people with the disease and doctors discuss the latest treatments and share personal stories of their own cancer journeys. Based on her research, she charted her own treatment course, forming a true partnership with her doctors as she navigated the disease.
She outsmarted the disease for a long time and had many years of complete remission. She got two extra years of life after CAR-T cellular therapy, which was an intense and miraculous treatment that kept her in the hospital for a full month. She tried every treatment available to her down to the very final week of her life, demonstrating incredible bravery every step of the way.
Jennifer was warm, generous, loving, a natural leader, had a great sense of humor, and was a wonderful mom devoted to her family. She was fiercely intelligent and held a lifelong love of learning. She also loved to travel, and the family explored widely together. She loved nature, ocean views, beaches, and the Hawaiian island of Maui held a special place in her heart.
She is survived by her husband Brad Creager, her daughters Cadi and Delaney, her not so miniature Australian Shepard dogs Barley and Piper, and her sister Cathleen Moore of Oakland, CA.
