Jeff's obituary
Jeffrey John Wood, 52, of Fishersville, VA, passed away on February 7, 2022.
Jeff was born on March 22, 1969 to Gene and Anne Wood in Youngstown, Ohio. Two weeks after his birth, his family moved to Virginia where he called home for the rest of his life. He considered himself a southerner through and through and frequently denied being born anywhere else.
After graduating from The Blue Ridge School in 1987, he went on to study History at the first love of his life, Virginia Polytechnic Institute. There he was a brother of Phi Delta Theta and cherished the many moments he spent in Blacksburg, self proclaimed king of Top of the Stairs.
In 1994, he met Kim Fisher, and they wed in 1996, going on to have two smart and beautiful daughters, Elle Addington and Elizabeth 'Bess' Bright, and the one son they chose, the amazing and unfaltering John Fisher.
If you met Jeff, you remembered him. He truly never knew a stranger, both young and old. He was an incredible father, friend, and mentor. He was truly a teddy bear with a huge heart. He felt deeply with his whole being and never left a person feeling uncared for. Helping others brought him joy second only to being a father. You could find him being the loudest parent in the crowd at every one of his children’s events, from ballet performances to football games, even when his kid was just a cheerleader on the sidelines. His presence in the Augusta County community will be deeply missed.
Jeff was predeceased by his father, Laurice Eugene ‘Gene’ Wood; mother-in-law, Helen 'Susie' Addington Fisher; and mentor Harry White. He is survived by his wife, Kim Wood of Fishersville; children Elle Wood, Bess Wood, and John Wood; mother Anne Bright Wood; older brother Greg Wood and his partner, Hussein Abdullatif; younger brother Kent Wood, his wife Stacey Wood, and two sons who Jeff loved dearly, Jaxson and Kaeden Wood; father-in-law Merle Fisher; in-laws Sean Fisher and Elizabeth Fisher and their daughters, Madison Fisher and Makenzie Fisher; his two dogs, Stella and Patsy, one Colorado dog, Scout; and many other family members and loved ones that he cherished deeply.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church in Fishersville, VA on Saturday, February 12 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge for the Gene Wood Memorial Fund, PO Box 815, Staunton, VA 24402.
