Jeffrey's obituary
Jeffrey Todd Lapping, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away on February 18, 2025, at the age of 55.
Jeff was born on December 13, 1969, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Robert Joseph Lapping and Patricia Gail Lapping.
He grew up as a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, Illinois. He attended Academy of Our Lady/Spalding Institute in Peoria and East Peoria High school. Jeff went on to further his education at Illinois Central College in Peoria before entering the workforce, with his most recent position being at Glass Doctor of Springfield.
Jeff married Christina Smith on October 31, 2006, in Champaign, Illinois. They later divorced.
He is survived by his son, Ian Lapping of Bokeelia, Florida, whom he shared with Brooke Derby, who also survives. Additional survivors include two brothers: Robert Scott Lapping of Galesburg, Illinois, and Brian Patrick (Megan) Lapping of Bloomington, Illinois; one nephew, Caleb Claeys of Galesburg; and two nieces, Abigail and Julia Lapping of Bloomington.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, and his infant brother, Robert Joseph Lapping, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward and Lucille (Jennings) Lapping, and Marbery and Eileen (Borton) Tate.
Throughout his life, Jeff was a beacon of light to all who knew him. His infectious laughter and vibrant personality could brighten any room, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
A man of many talents, Jeff had a deep passion for both music and the visual arts. As an accomplished musician, he mastered numerous instruments with guitar and piano being among his favorites. Jeff loved performing and shared his music with others through many concerts over the years. He was also a gifted artist, excelling in drawing and painting, using his talents to express himself and to inspire those around him. He frequently gifted his artwork to friends and family, leaving a lasting impression with each piece. Jeff was an avid fan of bands like Kiss and Iron Maiden. He spent much of his youth drawing characters from his favorite childhood magazine, Mad Magazine. In addition to his artistic and musical pursuits, Jeff was an excellent cook, frequently exploring gourmet recipes. He also had a passion for playing baseball and was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears. He was constantly seeking his next creative endeavor, always thinking outside of the box. His imagination knew no bounds. These talents and drive carried over into his adulthood. One of Jeff’s greatest passions was Halloween, his favorite time of year, when his creativity truly came to life. He eagerly embraced the season and the spirit of Halloween, crafting elaborate haunted houses that thrilled and excited those fortunate enough to experience them.
Jeff cherished his family and friends deeply, loving them with all of his heart. His kindness, humor, and creativity will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Cremation rites will be accorded, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Further details will be announced.
