I am thinking about the indelible imprint that Jeff left on the world today as he touched so many lives with his love while leaving an indelible impression on others  . He healed tens of thousands of patients and made their lives better. He was a wonderful husband to Libby and raised 4 lovely children who are special in so many ways. He was such a wonderful friend and brother-in-law. He had an awesome intellect, a quick wit, a heart for Jesus and love in his heart that he shared with all he encountered. I miss you brother.

Hard to believe it has been 8 years today!. Miss you each and every day!. So proud of you and the legacy you left for us all!. I strive to be as inspirational and loving as you were!

Mom and Dad miss you!. They love you so much!

The family you and Libby raised are all phenomenal in their own unique ways!

I trust you are helping me each and every day with making decisions and living a life that glorifies God in all I do!

Thinking of you on this gorgeous, sunny day, Dr. Hanway! Since you’ve been gone, I started and graduated from PA school. I have been working in neurosurgery for the past five years and feel so grateful that you were my first mentor. You taught me how to bring compassion, curiosity, and goofiness into every room. Of all the knowledge and skills I’ve learned, this is what I am most proud of.
Miss you!
Jamie

Thinking about my friend Jeff today. Hard to believe he’s been gone for 7 years. I still remember being at work and getting the phone call from my wife Wendy that he had passed. It seemed surreal at the time and still does today.

I miss you buddy. I’ll see you on the other side.

I sure miss my friend Jeff Hanway. Can’t believe he would have been 63 today, but I’m 60, so it does make sense. 😉

Some of my favorite memories are while we were in college together, playing soccer and competing with each other to be the starting goalkeeper, but becoming such close friends. Working in the summer for Jack, going to the lake and water skiing, and taking trips to McCall.

But my favorite memory of all time was going to New York in the late 1980’s when Jeff was at the NY School of Surgery. He says while I’m in town that he wants to go to dinner and introduce me to a woman he is dating. “I think she might be the one!”, he says. We go to dinner, I meet Libby, think she’s the best and he asks me afterwards what I think. I laughed and said “She’s great. Marry her”. But I said, “The best thing about tonight was that you’ve been the smartest guy in the room your whole life, and she (Libby) makes you look average! Don’t let her get away!” We often laughed about that for the next 30 years and I still believe it was true.

Libby and kids, much love to you all!

Thinking of Jeff on his birthday. He is missed by everyone.
Today my dad would've been 63... Today, I'm grateful for all the years that he was with us and even for these past few without. I grow deeper in my appreciation and love for him everyday - oddly, although I find that some memories form less easily nowadays, his presence in my life feels stronger and stronger. I find myself thinking of him more the farther we get from his passing.  Not everyone gets the privilege of being loved by someone whose impact was SO great in their time loving you that it's somehow even greater once they are gone. Who knows what it would have been like if he were still here today... To anyone reading and anyone who has commented on this thread before, thank you. Your relationship with my dad (whether a friend, relative, mentor, colleague, etc.) meant/means so much and your shared stories keep carrying us through...... "All my love", --- Tori (Jeff's 2nd oldest daughter)

Dear Jeff. Today is your birthday and I want you to know that I miss you brother. We are getting together tonight to celebrate your birthday and of course we’re having Cajun food as we know you loved Cajun food. We’ll have some jambalaya in your honor. We are going to bring photos and share some stories about you. It’ll be the family and, your wife and a few of your kids and myself and Ashley and your nephew James and your father-in-law Gary. I’m going to share the story of us skiing together at Val. You had brought Sasha and Tori and I brought Ashley and we put them in ski school in the morning and made sure they got settled and then we went out and skied the front of Vail.  we were coming down under I believe it was the highline left a double black diamond hitting the bump and skiing along and I was leading the way and you were close behind me. And I got to a cliff and was roped off and immediately stopped on a dime thank God . You immediately stopped next to me in your skis slightly hit mine. I was 6 inches from the edge of a 30 foot cliff with nothing but rocks on the other side we both looked at each other and laughed and kept on skiing that was athletic. That was my athletic brother-in-law. I miss you and I love you  ,

Love, Geoff

Your Hanway family is on my mind and heart today. Images that come to mind are of Jeff smiling while embracing Libby or the kids, or warmly spending time with people and making each person feel valued, are still a gift that he brought to this world. Sending much love today.

Dr. Hanway-

I can’t believe you’ve been gone for 6 years. You were so hard on me when I was your nurse at PSV. I’m now a pediatric nurse practitioner working in primary care and I’m so grateful for our time together. It’s made me a better provider. I see so many patients with back and spine problems that I am able to effortlessly treat because of what you taught me. I talk about about you to my patients so, in a way, you’re treating them too and your legacy lives on. Save me a spot at your table in heaven!

Libby: I remember when you graciously hosted one of the famous XC team pasta parties. It is such an exhausting role, and as everything was winding down, Jeff came and put his arms around you in the most loving and supportive embrace. It is such an indelible image that these years later, I still think of it when I think of you two.

I am grateful that your children got to see that kind of loving example in your relationship.

Thinking of my friend Jeff today.  He certainly became an amazing doctor and helped positively alter the course of so many kids lives who he performed surgeries for, but I'll always remember him as the down to earth guy from Nampa, Idaho who had a great sense of humor and was a great friend.

I miss seeing him after not hanging together for awhile and picking up like we'd never left off since being teammates in college and living together for the summer in 1984 before he went off to medical school at Harvard.

The gift of his passing for me has been to not hesitate to pick up the phone and call or text if a friend or family member comes to mind.  To not miss those moments to connect .... to tell someone I love them ..... how much they mean to me ..... and to remember that life is short and to live it to the fullest.

Thanks for your friendship Jeff.  I love you buddy and will see you on the other side.

My sincere heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of this great man.  He saved by daughter's like through surgery.  We are eternally grateful to him.
