Jeffrey's obituary

Jeffrey Scott Hammer, 63, was born on January 13th, 1962 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota to Merlin and Julaine “Julie” Hammer. Jeff earned his wings on August 31st, 2025 at his home in Lakewood, Colorado surrounded by the love of his family.

Jeff is preceded in death by his parents, Merlin and Julie Hammer and grandson, Odin Hammer. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn “Kathy”of 42 years whom he married in 1983. It was love at first sight; Kathy told a man named Jay she was going to marry that guy someday, little did she know she was talking to Jeff’s brother. Jeff and Kathy were engaged after one month of dating, people didn’t think they’d make it, despite the odds, they built a beautiful life and family together. Jeff’s legacy continues with their three children, Briana (Dawn), Brittany, and Brycen (Kacey), two grandsons, Loic and Finnley. Older sister, Jean (Kim) Gendill, younger brother, Jay (DJ) Hammer, along with three aunts, two uncles, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jeff was loyal with his career in safety, risk, and loss control. After graduating from Green Mountain High School in 1980, he went to school for Business Management and Accounting. Thus began his career where he worked for CTL as a Safety Director for 22 years. After CTL he became a Loss Control Consultant for Hartford Insurance for 10 years, and lastly a Senior Loss Control Representative for Acuity Insurance for nearly 10 years. Jeff spent a lot of time driving and traveling for work, he saw some beautiful places and it truly fueled his love of traveling to see the world. He really enjoyed his career and was looking forward to retirement next year.

Jeff was the life of every party; his smile, laugh, and antics were simply contagious. He was always looking on the brighter side of things and truly lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed traveling, camping, his Broncos garage, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. He always opened his arms to anyone and everyone. He was an avid Broncos fan, proud American patriot, but most of all, a devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 27th, 2025 at 9am at Lutheran Church on the Mountain: 14099 W. Jewell Ave., Lakewood, CO, 80228.

An open house reception will follow 10am-2pm at The Vista at Applewood Golf Course: 14001 W. 32nd Ave., Golden, CO 80401.

Feel free to wear any Colorado sports attire as Jeff loved his Colorado teams, especially the Denver Broncos.
