Jeffrey's obituary

Jeffrey Ray Fielhauer, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, passed away on November 25, 2024 at the age of 42 after battling cancer for nearly four years. Born on October 15, 1982 in Grand Rapids, MI, Jeff was the oldest son of Ron & Debby Fielhauer. Along with his younger brother, Andrew, Jeff grew up in Northville, MI and graduated from high school in 2001. He attended the University of Michigan and graduated in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology.

He married his high school sweetheart, Jessica Hrivnak, in the summer of 2005. The newly married couple moved to Durham, NC where Jeff began his master’s in Cellular and Molecular Biology at Duke University. He graduated in 2008 and started working in the field of medical writing, ultimately creating his own company as a contracted medical writer.

Jeff and Jess built a wonderful life together in Durham. They remodeled several homes in Durham and a mountain house in Seven Devils that they kept as rental properties. They found and transformed their current home on the Eno River, and most recently Jeff added a modern tree house sanctuary to it. Along the way, they amassed a close group of devoted friends and created a strong community of friends and neighbors.

By far, their greatest joy was welcoming their two daughters into their family: Vienna (age 12) and Adelaide (age 8). Vienna and Addie brought Jeff immeasurable happiness, and he was so incredibly proud to be their dad.

Jeff had a voracious appetite for reading and learning, loved to travel, and to spend time in nature. He loved being in the mountains best of all. He enjoyed woodworking and never met a scrap of wood that couldn’t be useful in his next project.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Jessica; their daughters, Vienna and Adelaide; his parents, Ron and Debby Fielhauer; his brother, Andrew, and numerous brothers-and-sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and countless friends and extended family who will miss him fiercely.
