Jeffrey's obituary
Jeff Scott Brown
Dear Friends of Jeff Brown’s at Revolving Games:
Thank you for your friendship to our dear Jeff! His wife, Christie, has told us you
had a moving office gathering in his honor, and needed a brief “obituary” comments for a memorial website.
I offered to take on this task, as it is a difficult one. I will keep it
necessarily short, although, because as you all know Jeff, there is a LOT his family
could say about him!!
Here are a few comments from some of us:
Jeff’s Mom, Sue Krevitt:
Mom: “Life sure had/has an Amazing Idea: Jeff! (Purple, his fave color.)
(And, I, “Mom,” have gotta say: to our infinitely-loving Creator, we are all amazing ideas !
(Jeff would want me to say this, not to put him on a pedestal. The truth, to him, was Universal,
regardless of the illusions about this…)
To me, (impartial Mom) Jeff was the most creative individual I’ve ever known. He exuded creativity!
He began walking at nine months of age, which told me early-on that he did not like, or accept,
limitations. When he learned in Sunday School that he is (we are), one of the ideas of Infinite
Intelligence (some call this “God”) it encouraged him to “think different,” to reach beyonnnd the
limits of mortal beliefs. This nurtured his deep love for nature, especially the intriguing parts---
the Octopus, odd flowers, Sand for umpteen Sandcastles, odd-frogs…and on to silly clown hats,
wildly-creative Halloween costumes (I gotta find that robot one!!), and all things imagination! Dr.
Seuss! And Games!! of all kinds, especially Stratego, BattlePlanet, and his own creation: Pathfinder
(a virtual game for adults that he hoped to market one day, but needed a couple of $mill to do this).
And of course he worked professionally as a Senior Game Designer for Revolving Games, a San
Francisco-based company. Oh, Jeff had ever so many, many other interests….Sci Fi books (Dune,
fave) and films, art, his family that he adored!! And over it all, his deep love for the teachings of
divine Science, the divine Laws of Life, Truth, Love. (And yes, he was a devoted member of the
Christian Science Church, but it was the Universal Laws that he based his life on. Call me if you
want more, much more, on this subject.)
Jeff, Jeff, Jeff …“Quasta!”… (a more fitting name for you, really. Sorry I didn’t think of it first.)
…..Your family, especially me, and of course especially your wonderful devoted wife Christie, and
your beloved Sibs/Close Pals: Kathy and Andrew; your sons Joel and Riley, and all your family
members: we truly adore you and will hear your laughter, see your Creations, appreciate your time in
our lives, forever and ever and ever and ever.
I love you, Quasta. We all love you!
See you…..Everywhere, all the time, with so much love, “Mom”
Sister Kathy: “Jeff often said, "Let's pack it in!" Every time there is a family visit, he
strives to create the most fun, with the most laughter, playing the best games, eating the
best berry pie, watching the best sunset, discussing the wonders of nature and filling
every wonderful moment with all his beloved family members. Jeff exudes FUN.
--Love you bro, Kathy
Brother Andrew: “Jeff consistently recognized and appreciated the amazing
phenomenon of this world. While he loved thinking about, reading about and watching
films about fantasy worlds, he most loved creating them. His rich and deep epic fantasy
worlds are pure genius. What I love most about him however, is that he was constantly
in awe of the magical wonders right here in our present universe. He clearly realized
that "in this realm, anything is possible." I will miss you brother.” --Andrew
Aunt Joan: “Jeff had the smarts and experience of a guy in his fifties, coupled with the
enthusiasm and wonder of a ten-year-old. Fantastic combination! I miss him so much.”
Uncle Lou: “Jeff was The Family Organizer. Sometimes it was a foursome for a board
game or a small group for Pictionary or decorating Christmas cookies. He was the drive
behind our largest gatherings of up to two dozen - mostly staying overnight at Mama
Sue's. He loved his family and made FAMILY happen.”
Gary Parks, life-long friend: “Though born an only child, I truly feel I experienced growing up
with a brother, through the crazy teen years we all have in some form, through college, and
beyond. We entered sand sculpting contests, created our own comic books, learned to perfect
our drawing and storytelling skills together, introduced each other to music. He showed me how
to be more assertive, yet still be kind. The zany, oblique, and truly original humor—often
involving our own group of invented cartoon characters--was truly out of this Universe. In
adulthood, circumstances had it that we didn’t get to spend as much time together as either of
us had envisioned or planned for back when we were kids, but when we were together, we
would pick up right where we left off, and more forward from there. The campaigns he ran for
our D&D group, which lasted (in Terran time) from 1980 through circa 1987, still resonate
today. In fact, I have shared some of our adventures—relating them to my two D&D-loving early
teen nephews. Jeff showed me that it is not only possible, but paramount, to retain a sense of
childhood Wonderment, no matter what else life may show you. Thank you, my dear friend.
You will always have a place on my life’s stage, with a radiant arc light beaming on you.”
