Jeff's obituary

Jeffrey Lynn Carder passed away on September 21, 2025 at the Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital in the presence of his loved ones after recently being diagnosed with lung cancer.

Jeff was born to Geraldine Ghant in Charlotte, NC on June 23, 1960. He was the first-born child and soon followed by his two sisters, Beverly and Lorrie. The girls spent their childhoods being typical pests and wanting to go on adventures with Jeff. After graduating high school, Jeff joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1978-1982 on the U.S.S. Tripoli followed by an additional two years of service in the U.S. Navy Reserves. His experiences in the Navy were transformative and a pivotal part of his personality. The stories shared of his service were incredibly humorous and eye-opening for all who dared to listen.

While stationed at the 32nd Street Naval Base in San Diego, Jeff met Toni Lowe and proceeded to fall in love with her and her young son, Heath. They made the decision to move to Charlotte, NC in 1985. Jeff and Toni were later married on November 8, 1986 and were expecting to celebrate 39 years of marriage this November. Jeff and Toni celebrated the birth of their sons, Sean in 1996 and Joel in 1997.

Throughout his life, Jeff loved to collect items that reminded him of his military service as well as committing his time to building local disc golf courses. All three of his sons developed a love for disc golf, which they in turn, share with others. Jeffrey was also a man of nature who loved fishing and camping, especially with his sons. While a man of few words, Jeff shared his loved through quiet acts of service and niche, heartfelt gifts. If Jeff was picking on you, it was a good bet to say he liked you and didn’t mind your presence while he was trying to watch the Panthers play.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Toni (64), his mother, Geraldine (85), his two sisters, Beverly (62) and Lorrie (59), and his three sons, Heath (45), Sean (29), and Joel (27). Jeff will also be incredibly missed by his many cousins, nieces, nephews, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. Jeff is preceded in death by his father, Olan Carder Sr, who passed in 2009.
