Jeannine's obituary
Mrs. Jeannine Beckum, age 82, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, June 11, 2024. She was a native of Normantown and was descended from its founder, Norman Williamson. Jeannine met the love of her life, Wayne Beckum, at a church event at Smith Street Baptist Church. They were married for 57 years and were blessed with three children. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for decades. After her children were school-aged, Jeannine earned her GED and went to cosmetology school. She worked as a beautician at Town & Country Beauty Shop for over twenty years. For the last seven years of Wayne’s career, they moved to Jacksonville, Florida. They returned to the Vidalia area upon retirement and built a home on family land. Jeannine was preceded in death by her husband, and her parents, Carl and Inez Williamson Mixon.
Mrs. Beckum is survived by three children: Alex Beckum and wife Joy of the New Branch Community, Patti Beckum McCall and husband David of St. Marys, and Thomas Beckum, Jr. and wife Paige of Berkeley Lake in Gwinnett County; four siblings, Barbara Scott, Warren “Bubba” Mixon and wife Diane, and Murlene Mixon all of Vidalia, and Judy Pittman of Lyons; seven grandchildren, Lucas Beckum, Leigha Kirkley, Rebecca Erin Wasson, Rachel Rushton, Kevin McCall, Kaiden Beckum, and Cody Beckum; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was a strong woman who loved her husband tremendously, and her children. She strove to teach her children to be the very best they could be. Jeannine loved God and her fellow church members dearly. She wanted those she knew and loved to know Christ and be faithful followers of the Scriptures. She has joined the chorus of the saints who have gone before us, eternally praising her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
