Jeanne Ann (Strain) Yost, (79) of Jefferson, GA passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on March 20, 2025. She lived a life of service, compassion, and love, calling many places home, including Des Moines, IA; Wilson, NC; Albany, GA; Savannah, GA; Blairsville, GA; and Jefferson, GA.
A dedicated registered nurse, Jeanne cared for patients in Wilson, NC, before serving at the Dougherty County Health Department in Albany, GA. She later became a high school health occupations teacher in Albany and then Savannah, GA, where she inspired countless students with her knowledge and encouragement. Her kindness and wisdom left a lasting impact on those she helped in both the medical field and the classroom.
A woman of deep faith, Jeanne was a devoted member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville, GA. Her faith provided strength and comfort to those around her.
Above all, Jeanne was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents Claude E. and Billie J. Strain and her brother, Bill. She is survived by her three children: Ted Yost (Cindy) of Maitland, FL, and their children, Hannah, Patrick, Stephen, and Abby; Kim Strong (Tom) of Jefferson, GA, and their children, Caitlin and Ethan; and Scott Yost (Necol) of Blairsville, GA, and his children, Madison and Jack. She is also survived by her sister, Nanci Newman of Savannah, GA.
In her free time, Jeanne was an avid reader and loved playing backgammon, cards and other games, always enjoying a good challenge and the camaraderie of friendly competition. Her warmth, comforting wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of life service for Jeanne will be held by immediate family & friends on Tybee Island, GA. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Chapel & Cemetery in West Des Moines, IA where her parents, brother and other family are lain. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville, GA.
