Jeanette's obituary
Jeanette was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband of 66 years, Jule H. Dykes; a son, Winfred H. Dykes; and two brothers, Douglas and Logan Cassedy. Surviving to cherish their memories are a son and daughter-in-law Charles and Glenda Dykes, and a daughter and son-in-law Faye and Johnny Hollington. Her grandchildren are Charles M. Jr. (Tammy); Derek H. (Mitzi) Dykes; Justin (Melinda); Jason; and Josh (Amanda) Hollington. Her nine great grandchildren are: Amanda, Andrew, Macy and Prentiss Dykes, Kelsey, Jenna, Jeremy, Makenzie, and John Riley Hollington. Jeanette was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Jeanette met Jule while he was working in the meat market in a grocery store in Metter, Ga. They were married in Metter after a short courtship on July 11, 1940. With a twinkle in her eyes, she enjoyed reminding him that “everything is better in Metter”. Jule was always looking for new and better opportunities so they lived and worked in several small towns in southeast Georgia. They moved to Jekyll Island in 1958 opening the first grocery store. They later moved to Brunswick opening a store in the Glyndale area. Adults and children loved doing business with Mr. and Mrs. Dykes. Jeanette’s neighbors in Belle Point remember her spending a lot of time outside walking her favorite pet, Yobo, and working in her yard. She was a faithful member of Altama Presbyterian Church and the Seekers Sunday school class. The family would like to thank Dr. Mitchell Jones and the staff of Strickland, Jones and Certain for their excellent care before she went to Hospice in May of this year. We would also like to thank the staff, and volunteers of the Hospice of the Golden Isles for the care and fellowship we shared over the last three months. The compassion and respectful care that our mother received will never be forgotten. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
