Jean's obituary
Jean Ann Heffernan (66), loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed unexpectedly due to a heart condition on Thursday, February 17th, 2022. Jean went on her own terms and at peace with the world. She was surrounded by love and most importantly by her two children; Trevor (36) and Julie (34).
Jean was born to the late Mildred and John Zima in Berwyn, Illinois on August 19th, 1955. Jean spent her childhood in Downers Grove, IL with her four siblings: Janet, David, Lori and Steve. From an early age, Jean was active and never afraid to challenge the status quo. Her friends often described her as fun and filled with laughter. Jean spent her early career working in the city of Chicago at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
Jean was blessed with a loving family and achieved her dream job of becoming a mother. She raised her children to be strong, compassionate, unconventional thinkers. She encouraged them to speak their mind, to be open to new opportunities, and to go after their goals. Jean was their biggest cheerleader but made sure to challenge them as well.
Jean was the epitome of an independent woman. A bright light who was not afraid to be different. Jean used her wit and intellect to lead a life of her own. Her kindness was immeasurable. No act was too big or too small. Jean loved to laugh, cook, and in her later years, spent her time providing childcare to local neighborhood families and volunteering at the local Food Pantry.
Jean is survived by her children, Trevor and Julie Heffernan, TJ (her dog), Marley and Scout (her grand dogs), her sister, Lori Grischow, and her brothers, David Zima and Steve Zima. Most importantly, Jean will be survived by all her future grandchildren. Jean is preceded in death by her sister, Janet Sheridan, and her parents.
