Growing up, we ate a lot of dinner's at my Grams house. In the afternoon after school, my Grampy would pick me up and bring me to their house. My Gram would often be reading which was her favorite activity. Around 5pm each night, my mom would arrive and we would all sit down for a family dinner. Looking back, I didn't realize how lucky I was to get to see my grandparents each day, but it's certainly something I look back on with fondness and gratitude.
My Gram was a vegetarian for as long as I can remember. She just didn't like the taste of meat, but nonetheless, she'd still make it for us. My personal favorite dish was my Gram's "Salmon Pea Wiggle" - consisting of white sauce, canned salmon, peas, and toast. Simple but delicious. She also often made Shepherd's Pie, Salmon Patties, American Chop Suey, Deviled Eggs, and Tuna Noodle Casserole (yes, we are indeed of English descent if you can't tell). Around the holidays, my Gram would make the yummiest peanut butter fudge (I know I'm biased, but truly, the yummiest fudge I've EVER had) and rhubarb cake.
I can't thank my Gram enough for all the yummy food over the years; recipes I will cherish forever and continue to make in her honor. You'll be with me in my kitchen often.
I love you Gram <3
