Jay's obituary
Jayant "Jay" Marathe, a man of remarkable intellect, kindness, and humor, peacefully departed this life on July 19, 2024. Born in 1937 in Maharashtra, India, Jay's passion for life and boundless curiosity have left an indelible mark on all those fortunate enough to have known him.
The legacy of Jay's brilliant mind is evident in his notable academic achievements. He held degrees from the esteemed Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), a testament not only to his remarkable intellect but also to his enduring commitment to the pursuit of knowledge. Jay had a unique ability to turn most interactions into a learning experience, imbued with laughter.
Despite his many professional accolades, Jay was most proud of the family he built with his beloved wife, Mrinalini "Meenal" Marathe (Charlene). Their enduring partnership formed the heart of a close-knit family that includes their son, Raj (Sarah) Marathe, and their daughter, Tima (Jeff) Worcester, their grandchildren: Lexi, Liam, Kennedy, Truitt, Hope, Bella and their great-granddaughter, Scarlett. Jay is also survived by his brother, Sharad "Jack" Marathe, and sister, Vidya Mudholkar. His love for his family was vast and unwavering.
Although we mourn the loss of Jay, we take solace in knowing that his spirit continues to live on through his loving family. He was predeceased by a brother and three sisters, as well as his cherished grandson, Garrison Worcester, whose memory continues to be a source of inspiration and comfort for the family.
A Celebration of Life for Jay will be held on August 24, 2024, from 2:00 PM - 4:00PM at Trinity Emmanuel Lutheran Church (761 Elmgrove Rd, Rochester, NY 14624). Jay's family invites those who loved and admired him to join in commemorating his vibrant life and legacy.
As we reflect on Jay's life, we are reminded of his extraordinary attributes – his intelligence, kindness, and humor. These qualities defined Jay's life, and they continue to inspire all those who knew him. He will be profoundly missed, yet his spirit lives on, through the enduring influence of his remarkable life.
