Jay's obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jay Dewar on August 4, 2023. Born on April 13, 1946, Jay's vibrant personality and indomitable spirit left a mark on everyone he encountered.

Jay leaves behind a loving family who will remember him with fond memories. These include his sister Marcia Woodard, daughters Laura (Dewar) Avalone and Jaime (Dewar) Fechter, his son Christopher Dewar, and 8 boisterous grandchildren Max, Luca, Ella, Alexa, Olivia, Emerson, Pierce, & Sam. His parents, Marcella and John Dewar and his sister Mary Havenhill, predeceased Jay.

Born in Riverside, Illinois and brought up in Western Springs, Illinois, Jay began his schooling in 1951 and graduated from Lyons Township High School in 1964. He furthered his studies at Missouri Valley College, where he played 4 years of college football while he double majored in Business and Psychology, graduating in 1968.

After college, Jay embarked on a successful career with Dana Inc., starting initially as a Warehouse Manager in 1969. His hard work and dedication soon bore fruit. He was promoted to Regional Manager, Warehouse Distributers Division after moving to Media, Pennsylvania in 1975. Jay's career trajectory continued upwards when he moved to Sylvania, Ohio, becoming the Director of Marketing & Sales, Automotive Systems Group. His position required frequent business travel and afforded him many international experiences. He retired in 2002 after a rewarding career.

Retirement for Jay was far from sedentary. In 2005, he relocated to Sun Lakes, Arizona, where he embraced his love for golf, enjoyed rides on his Harley Davidson through the mountains, and worshipped at Cornerstone Church. In 2022, he moved to Dallas, Texas to be closer to his children and their families.

Jay was a man of simple tastes. He loved chocolate chip cookies, pecan pie, and tacos, enjoyed games of Domino's, and remained physically active through running and cycling. Jay's adventurous, charming, and independent nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Among his many accomplishments, Jay was particularly proud of completing five different marathons, including Detroit, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. His enduring spirit and zest for life will continue to inspire his loved ones.
