I’ve been trying to find old college pictures, but unfortunately, I can’t seem to find any with Talley, which is ridiculous given all the good times we had together as a group. So, here are some of my memories….
Talley and I got to know one another when he was hanging out on the 3rd floor at The Chase, 3rd year at VT. I undoubtedly crossed paths with him several times before while going out to College Park Phase II with my “new architecture friends”, Pete, Josh, and O, during 2nd year. Anyway, I remember him hanging out all the time at the Chase, but he lived in some far off farm or something off campus….I’m pretty sure he gave it some cool nickname that I can’t remember anymore (anyone else recall the name?) where he had this huge bonfire burning wood pallets.
The first time we hung out individually outside the group of friends was when he was looking for someone to go out to Preston’s with him. It must have been a Monday or Tuesday because no one else wanted to go, but I said ‘Sure, I’ll go!’. We were underage, but since he worked there, we were able to cut the huge line and go right in. Honestly, I think it was my first experience going to a bar in Blacksburg. He introduced me to ‘Rocky Mountain Mother F’er’ shots, which we drank all night. Needless to say, we had a great time that night and from then on through the remainder of college, we were regular fixtures in each other’s lives.
There were VT football games, Sean and Talley singing ‘Blame it on the Rain’ sitting in chairs in the rain next to Roanoke Street (because they threw chairs off the balcony at The Chase), case races, THE Halloween party, frisbee, croquet, bags, Outer Banks spring break, Super 7 soccer games…..so many great memories and countless ones that I’ve forgotten.
My last night in Blacksburg after graduating, I remember hanging out with Talley and Josh. We kept it relatively low-key, just playing cards. I had just learnt a new game, which I taught them, but I couldn’t remember the name. So, we decided to come up with our own name by each contributing a word….Josh, ‘Radical’; Me ‘Chamomile’ (pronounced cha-mo-mi-lee); and Talley ‘Pipeline’. I can still see the smile on his face and hear the chuckle he gave.
