Jason's obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of Jason “Jay” M. Rodriguez. Jason was raised in Newark, NJ, by his parents, Iris Rios and Rufino “Rudy” Rodriguez, alongside his big sister, Jessica Ruiz. He attended St. Peter’s Elementary School, where he met Jessica Santiago, the mother of his beloved children Siarrah Lynn Rodriguez and Alijah Jayde Rodriguez. Later, he graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, where he met his lifelong friends Edgar and Danny.

Over the years, Jason spent summers playing basketball with his father and going down the lake with his family. Jason was a devoted fan of the Miami Dolphins, and his passion for the team brought camaraderie and pride to countless hearts, leaving an enduring legacy of loyalty. He loved watching games and playing poker with his friends. Later in life, Jason took pride in coaching his children’s sports teams, and he loved spending quiet nights at home watching movies with his children, especially comedies. His all-time favorites were The Waterboy and Ace Ventura. Listening to music was his favorite form of therapy, including 2Pac, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and Eminem. His most-liked poem was "The Rose That Grew from Concrete" by Tupac Shakur.

Jason had a never-ending arsenal of jokes and humorous anecdotes. He shared a good laugh with anyone in his presence. His contagious sense of humor was a gift that he shared with the world, brightening the lives of those lucky enough to know him. His laughter was a reminder that even in the most challenging times, there is always a reason to smile, and his memory continues to bring joy to those who had the privilege of experiencing his infectious humor.

Jason wore many titles, including son, little brother, nephew, Tio, cousin to many, friend, and coach. But his favorite title was Daddy. To his daughter, he leaves his sense of humor, and to his son, his passion for sports. We will miss him until the day after forever.
