Where do I start? It really shook me when I learned of this. Jason and I while stationed in Kings Bay talked about a lot of things and not always work related. A long history of family in military. Known him since his days at SLF. Man!! How we have aged. He was always there to talk to. He was always open. He found the time. I could name things off all day, but if you knew Jason, you know I don’t have to.
My condolences to his family and friends.

I reported to my first command as a YNSR, the topside watch was YNS3 Jason Martel. I was scared to death, fresh out of boot camp, but Jason had a way of easing you with a smile. As he logged me into the deck logs, I learned that he would be my sea dad. Having no idea what that meant, he proceeded to tell me that he would be my mentor and brother. 24 years later, I can say, Jason was just as much a brother as my own flesh and blood. He is the most genuine person I ever met, He gave so much to everyone he ever met. He eased you with his smile, he welcomed you with his laugh, and he loved you with his heart. Jason will always be my brother, not because he was a fellow Chief, but because he let me into his family. I will forever love you Jason!! Thank you for being my brother and best friend no matter our distance. I will never forget the lessons you taught me.
