Jason's obituary

Jason Magaard, age 54, passed away in Glendale, Arizona on April 18, 2026.

Jason was born in 1972 to Donna May Knafla.  Jason grew up in Minnesota alongside his younger siblings, Jennifer and Daniel. His early years were spent in the Twin Cities area, with a brief time in Onamia and Coon Rapids during high school. He later earned his GED and began carving his own path.

Jason was the father of Ridgeway, Allen, and Matthew, and played a significant role in the lives of Quinnlin and Jonathon, whom he helped raise during his long-term relationship with their mother, Tanya Rickman. He loved Tanya deeply, though he often found it difficult to express his emotions. Over time, his role within his family evolved, and some relationships became distant, yet they remained a meaningful part of his life’s story.

Jason had a naturally curious mind and a deep interest in how things worked. He was especially drawn to computers, cars and technology, often staying up to date with the latest trends and innovations. He enjoyed problem-solving, tinkering on cars and around the house, and figuring things out—skills that carried into both his work and personal life. Over the years, he worked in a variety of roles, including in retail and specialty shops, where his knowledge and interests were often reflected.

He also had a strong appreciation for collectibles and entertainment, particularly trading card games, anime, movies and other hobby communities where he found enjoyment and connection.

Jason experienced personal struggles throughout his life, including challenges with depression. His passing comes after a tragic incident that has deeply affected many.

He is survived by his mother, Donna; his sister, Jennifer (Tim); his brother, Daniel (Alicia); his sons, Ridgeway, Allen, Matthew, Quinnlin, and Jonathon; and several nieces and nephews: Kalista, Logan, Harrison, Jameson, and Tristan.

Jason will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and curiosity. When he truly smiled, his eyes would twinkle. He found comfort in spending time on his own projects at home. While his life was complex, he leaves behind a lasting impact on those who knew him.
