Jarrod's obituary

Jarrod Michael Hay passed away on August 21st, 2025, in San Antonio, TX. He died of natural causes at Northeast Baptist Hospital. Jarrod was born on June 8th, 1987 in San Antonio, TX, to his mother, Holly Hay (formerly McWhorter), and his father Melvin Hay. He graduated magna cum laude from Theodore Roosevelt Highschool in San Antonio, TX, in 2005, and attended classes at San Antonio College, as well as UTSA, in pursuit of a degree in Psychology. He worked for 9 years at the corporate offices of Bill Miller BBQ. He worked as a counselor at Camp CAMP for several seasons. Jarrod was a film enthusiast, and in his younger days, an avid writer.

Jarrod is survived by his mother and father, his younger brother Jonny, and partner Chloe, and older brother Nick, and partner Clarissa, and nephews Rivers and Remy, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jarrod was a dreamer and a child at heart. He had boundless love for those in need. Through his work at Camp CAMP, he empowered people with differing abilities in the hopes of giving them the tools that they need for the life he knew they could live. He was a believer, not in a god, but in people. He wanted the best for his fellow human and he worked towards this every day in the interactions he shared with others. To quote one of Jarrod’s favorite literary characters, Peter Pan, the boy who refused to grow up, “it is not in doing what you like, but in liking what you do that is the secret of happiness”. At his best, Jarrod loved what he did. He thrived, he dreamed, and he lived because he knew that the moment “you doubt whether you can fly, is when you cease to be able to do so”.

A celebration of Jarrod’s life is currently being planned. Please check back for details to come.
