I am an Ombuds colleague of Jaredโ€™s and I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Lee family and his dear friends. This week I was on a phone call with a colleague sharing our sadness and grieving Jaredโ€™s loss when I looked out the window and watched an eagle soar past over the Hudson River in New York (a rare and thrilling sight). Jared was a treasured and valued colleague and volunteer with the California Caucus of College and University Ombuds. Among his many attributes Jaredโ€™s easy confidence, professionalism and kindness made him stand out. ย He joined our Planning Committee as a volunteer and never said no, was always ready to step in and did so with a smile. ย His physical absence will be felt, acknowledged and honored at our annual conference in November. ย As I read more about Jaredโ€™s life and family, about his dedication to volunteering and sharing his gifts with all of his communities, his exceptionalism comes into even greater focus. And as I learn about his deep faith Iโ€™m comforted in the knowledge that although heโ€™s not with us anymore, he is safe and is at home.

โ€œBut those who hope in the Lordโ€จ ย will renew their strength.โ€จ They will soar on wings like eagles;โ€จ ย they will run and not grow weary,โ€จ ย they will walk and not be faint.โ€ Isaiah 40:31. May Jared rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon him. ย โค๏ธ

Jared was an incredible human. His smile was kind and infectious. He was sweet, polite, funny. My memory among others is how much he helped me at camp his last year as a camper. He could have been doing so many other things and yet, he made sure to ask what he could do for me. This is so indicative of who he was at his core, he was a servant. He served others in order to show his love for our Lord and I find a smile comes to my face when I think of the joy of the reward he is experiencing now in the presence of our King. We grieve with you, Lee family, we love you. We look forward to the great reunion when all of us are at home with Jesus .ย

Our memories of young Jared are precious to all of the Hale clan. His joyful and energetic personality always made us smile and laugh at his antics. We loved hearing about his achievements, his love for the Lord, and his service to others. We are thankful that we had that time with him.
This is a video of Jared rowing a vessel that had just crossed the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to Hawaii.ย  Good job, Jared!
Here is a video of Jared paddling and steering a Holopuni sailing canoe. First time! Good job, Jared!

  • My name is Terri and I did not know Jared. But I did just recently meet Noe as she has visited our church in Kansas City Missouri. After reading about Jared, I just feel the need to let you know my heart breaks for you, all of you. There are never any words that could help when someone loses a child! From what I ย read about him he was a light in this dark world, and that light shown to everyone that knew him. What a blessing to have a child like Jared. My prayers and thoughts for you, his family, and all those that knew him ย continually are said for all of you, and for the world that lost him.ย

Jared was so kind, so thoughtful and caring, with a boundless energy that he shared gladly. I couldn't have a bad day when I was around Jared. There was too much to see and explore in the wonder of nature, too much to hear about all his activities, to ever stay bogged down with whatever mundane troubles I had. I loved when the whole family could be together (I'm his aunt)--the Lees are an incredible family, every one of them.

To see all of your stories of how deeply Jared touched you is astonishing. I found Jared remarkable for what he gave to all of us in the family, but to see that he could share himself similarly in his professional life as well is even more amazing. How does one person have so much inside of them to give?

Along with all of you I am heartbroken. My heart aches for all of us in his family and for all his friends and colleagues. We miss you and love you Jared!
