Jared and I met in the Bountiful YSA ward (I believe) He was full of life, adventure and always happy. He started a small singing group and we practiced at his home. I enjoyed getting to know Jared. We were also in the Mormon Youth Chorus together.
Jared was always positive and optimistic. We were on a 2019 Ragnar Relay team. A lot of heat, not much sleep, but he made it a fun experience. He even showed me how to play a song on the ukelele at a rest stop. We also did a play together (7 Brides for 7 Brothers) and another race we ran as Zombies.
Jared was always inviting me to go do stuff with him. Shooting guns, biking, running, unusual races (stair climb for cancer, zombie apocalypse tag...), hiking, etc. He loved exploring new places and trying new things. He had a creative and curious mind and seemed to always be learning something new. His name was always on the volunteer lists that got passed around for various assignments and needs. I one time invited about 50 different men to go to an early morning Temple session with me during the week and Jared was the only one who came with me. He was always so friendly and kind and I will miss his warm demeanor and friendship.
Jared loved keeping animals and as his neighbor, I was happy to help him as needs arose. One afternoon I found his goats down the street on a neighbor's steps. After a little while of chasing them around, we finally got them roped with leashes and safely gathered them into Jared's corral in the back. There he kept chickens, ducks, goats, sheep and pot-belly pigs. There always seemed to be an escape artist in the group and Jared was constantly trying to outsmart the animals to keep them in their cages, but it seemed like one continual round of finding the one that got out and figuring out how to get it back in the cage. My favorite was when the sheep ran away and Jared literally had to drive all over Bluffdale to round them up. I'm pretty sure one of them ran accross Redwood Rd before it was all over! Several experienced neighbors got involved on that roundup.
This picture is from when Jared got Todd and Lincoln to do a 5k race at thanksgiving. I know he also did a zombie race that we missed out on! I remember when Jared first moved in next door to our family. He was so friendly and outgoing. I’d see him taking out the garbage or walking to church with Jasper and he never missed a chance to say “hi Kari” with gusto making me feel befriended.
We went trail riding with Jared on dirtbikes last summer and discovered some beautiful areas I had never been before. My 16 yr old son rode up this steep hill behind us and Jared was so impressed. It was fun to see him so happy to be out riding.
We have setup a Go Fund Me account to help with the memorial service and other expenses that have already started to come in. If able, please consider donating.
Jared and I never actually met, but we became Facebook friends after we had shared our life-changing adventures on the Kalalau Trail on Kaua'i. We became members of a unique club. God bless his family.
I joined a team of 10 cyclists to do the saints to sinners ride, we split up into two 5 person teams, Jared was one of my team members, he was so easy to get to know and talk to. I had the pleasure of riding home with him and his son in his truck back to Herriman from Vegas. He invited me to have breakfast with hi beautiful family that morning before we drove home. So sad to see such a nice person go, God Bless.
My first and last adventure race. Jared had an uncanny ability to talk other people into joining him in his fun (i.e., crazy!) adventures. I will always cherish memories of the Halo nights at his Farmington house. May some small part of his gusto and zeal for life and adventure live on in all of those who knew him. Rest in peace, my friend.
Jared and I met in Philmont Scout Camp. We were attending a leadership course for adults and became bunk mates. We had a lot in common and quickly became friends. He and Heidi hosted me, a Nebraskan, in Beautiful Mountains of SLC. I remember meeting him at the airport, bag in hand and him saying “we’ve got to wrangle the hog and deliver it, then I was thinking we could go to Zion”. So now when I see anything about Zion NP or Angels Landing I think of him.
