Jan taught high school to begin her long life of teaching and staying teachable. Jan inspired me to speak my mind openly and in ways where folks, esp. men, listen.  Also, at her office, in a fancy firm, she left a few extra trash bags in the trash container. Saved the janitor time plus a little thank you note.  Am from a lower wkg. class income whereas Jan more middle class income. No matter. Never think you are better than anyone no matter your income or your degrees.  We got it from our families!

I can’t quite accept that Jan is no longer in this world. I met her in 1976, when I had just come out; she was a guide and mentor back then and a very dear friend ever since. I’m so happy that she visited my wife and me when she came to NYC for the US Open last December and we visited her in Palm Springs last January.  I think of Jan and miss her every day.
My heart is broken to hear the news. Tara was the one who told me so much about Jan. I loved her before I even met her. She’s is beautiful and has a beautiful soul. Prayers and blessings to Jess and family.

My condolences to Jan's family. I  met Jan in 1974 and last saw her in Charlotte at the airport in 2023. We talked, laughed and "sniffled" about the good old days. I will miss our phone conversations but I know that all is well with her soul.  She is missed.

Rest in Peace, Jan. You always had kind words for me and always shared your support for my writing. I will miss you ❤️
