Janice's obituary

Janice Joyce Navarra Rybar

March 8, 1947 - October 17, 2023

Janice Joyce Navarra Rybar, 76 years old, departed her loving family on October 17, 2023 in Blairsville, Georgia, having her precious memories fully restored. Janice was born in Watertown, NY on March 8, 1947 to Joyce and Joseph Navarra.

She was mother to Amy Rose Rybar Schrock and David Gregory Rybar. Janice raised her children with love and devotion in Tallahassee, Florida and South Florida with her husband David Paul Rybar, whom she married in the summer of 1969 on July 5 in Tampa, Florida. Their wedding celebration remains legendary among both sides of their families as a truly joyous event.

As a social worker, Janice was known for her compassion, advocacy, integrity and empathy, helping clients during the end of their lives while working as the Director of Social Services at John Knox Village and then as the Lead Social Worker at Vitas Hospice Care in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Besides spending time with her family, her hobbies included reading, sewing and watching classic, science fiction and fantasy movies. She was most proud of going back to school to earn her Master's Degree in Social Work from Florida International University when she turned 50 years old and earning her LCSW certification.

Janice is survived by her devoted children, Amy and her husband Randall, David and his wife Christine, and her adored grandchildren, Kathryn, Raymond, Logan and Lucy. In addition to the children she treasured, Janice is survived by her siblings John Navarra, Jamie Ralston and Jill Chmelik. She is predeceased by her mother and father, Joyce and Joseph Navarra, and her husband, David Paul Rybar.

Services will be held at a future date at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church and Arlington National Cemetery in Northern Virginia.
